How Borkou is Governed
Chad has a system where the country is divided into different areas to make it easier to manage. This is called decentralization. Since 2003, Chad has been divided into regions, departments, and smaller communities.
The regions are led by Governors, who are chosen by the President of Chad. Local groups called assemblies are elected every six years. As of 2016, Chad has 23 regions.
The Borkou region is divided into two main parts called departments:
- Borkou Department (its capital is Faya-Largeau)
- Borkou Yala Department (its capital is Kirdimi, also known as Kirdi)
