Bos Swallet is a special type of cave called a karst cave. You can find it in Burrington Combe, which is a beautiful valley on the Mendip Hills in Somerset, England.

This cave is quite steep inside! It goes down about 42 meters (that's like going down 14 stories!). The cave also stretches for about 78 meters underground.

Discovering Bos Swallet

Bos Swallet was first found in 1947 by some schoolboys. These boys were students from a nearby school called Sidcot School. They were exploring the area and noticed something interesting.

What the Schoolboys Found

When the boys discovered the cave, they saw some cool things inside. They found old bones, pieces of flint (a type of stone), and bits of pottery. These discoveries suggested that people or animals might have used the cave a long, long time ago!

Looking for More Clues

Because of what the schoolboys found, experts became interested in Bos Swallet. People started doing archaeological investigations there. This means they carefully studied the cave to learn about its past.

From 1985 to 1995, there were also many attempts to dig deeper into the cave. People hoped to find more clues about ancient life or history hidden within.
