Bottrel is a very small community called a hamlet. It is located in southern Alberta, Canada. A hamlet is a small settlement, usually smaller than a village. Bottrel is managed by Rocky View County.
This hamlet is about 65 kilometers (40 miles) northwest of Calgary. You can find it just off Highway 22. Bottrel is known for its old-fashioned general store and a campground. It's a quiet spot with a bit of history.
History of Bottrel
Bottrel was named after an early settler. His name was Edward Botterel. He arrived in this area around the year 1888.
How Bottrel Got Its Name
A local post office opened in Bottrel on December 1, 1909. It stayed open until March 31, 1969. The post office was named after Edward Botterel. However, there was a small mistake in the spelling. The name was spelled "Bottrel" instead of "Botterel." This spelling error was never fixed. Because of this, the community is still known as Bottrel today.
