The Bouchard River is a small river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Franquelin River. This river is located in the area of Franquelin, which is part of the Manicouagan Regional County Municipality in the Côte-Nord region.

The main activity in the valley around the Bouchard River is forestry, which means cutting down trees for wood. Another important activity is recreation and tourism, like enjoying nature.

The Bouchard River usually freezes over from early November until the end of April. However, it's generally safe to travel on the ice from late November to early April.

Where the Bouchard River Flows

The Bouchard River starts from a small lake in Franquelin. This lake is about 100 meters long and sits at an elevation of 218 m (715 ft) (about 715 feet) above sea level.

The river's starting point is:

  • About 3.9 km (2.4 mi) northwest of where the Bouchard River ends.
  • About 6.1 km (3.8 mi) northwest of where the Franquelin River ends.

The Bouchard River flows for about 5.3 km (3.3 mi) (about 3.3 miles). As it flows, it drops about 158 m (518 ft) (about 518 feet) in height. It mostly flows through forest areas.

Here's how the river flows:

  • For the first 2.2 km (1.4 mi), it flows southeast. It makes a loop to the east and collects water from lakes like Gagnon, Perron, Bourgeois, Cyrille, and Gleeson.
  • Then, for about 1.2 km (0.75 mi), it flows south through a deep valley, making a loop to the west. It also collects water from lakes like Larose.
  • Finally, for about 1.9 km (1.2 mi), it flows east, making a loop to the north, until it reaches its mouth.

The Bouchard River joins the Franquelin River on its west bank. This meeting point is:

  • About 4.2 km (2.6 mi) north of where the Franquelin River flows into the sea.
  • About 18.7 km (11.6 mi) southwest of the village of Godbout.
  • About 32.6 km (20.3 mi) northeast of the center of Baie-Comeau.

From where the Bouchard River joins the Franquelin River, the water then flows for another 12.6 km (7.8 mi) (about 7.8 miles) along the Franquelin River until it reaches the northern shore of the Estuary of Saint Lawrence.
