History of Boyd
Boyd was first settled by farmers in the early 1890s. It was originally called Greasy Bend. This name came from the local business of raising hogs. In 1893, a railroad called the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad came to town. The settlement was then renamed Parkhurst, after one of the railroad's officials. Soon after, the town changed its name again to Boyd. This was also named after another railroad official. The change helped avoid confusion with a nearby place called Park Springs.
