Brain-Jitsu was a fun CBBC TV show from the UK. It tested young contestants, called brainees, with challenges. These challenges were designed to use different parts of their brains. After each challenge, one brainee was eliminated. The others earned a higher level brain belt.

The show was led by the Sensei, who also gave commentary. The Shihan was in charge of the tasks and watched over them.

Between each level, contestants could get ready for the next challenge. They went to The Room Of Mental Nourishment. Here, they got a special task to train the part of the brain needed for the next level. The brainees could choose to do this extra training or not. But any extra practice helped them for the task ahead. The person who lost a level was interviewed in a Walk of Eternal Regret.

Brain-Jitsu Belts and Challenges

At the start of the show, eight brainees began with a white belt. As they moved up, the brainees who were still in the game got a higher level brain belt. They wore these belts around their forehead.

  • Level 1 - Yellow Belt: This level used the occipital lobes of the brain. This part helps you see and understand what you see. The task was always Enter the Dojo.
  • Level 2 - Orange Belt: This level used the frontal lobes. This part of your brain helps with thinking, planning, and making decisions. Brainees had to do something they normally do without thinking, but in a new way.
  • Level 3 - Green Belt: This level asked brainees to work in teams of two. Each person in the pair had to use a different half of their brain.
  • Level 4 - Blue Belt: This level used the amygdala. This part of your brain helps with emotions, like fear. Brainees were challenged to overcome their fears.
  • Level 5 - Red Belt: This level worked out two important brain parts. The cerebrum is the thinking part of the brain. The Cerebellum helps with movement and balance.
  • Level 6 - Brown Belt: This level needed brainees to use three brain parts. These were the occipital lobes (for sight), temporal lobes (for hearing and memory), and the cerebellum (for movement).
  • Level 7 - Black Belt: The two remaining contestants faced the final challenge. They had to push a ball across a table using only their focus. The show measured how much brain power they used during this challenge.
