History of Braman
Braman got its name from a railroad builder named Dwight Braman. The town's post office opened on April 22, 1898. Around that time, a railroad track was built from Hunnewell, Kansas to Braman. This helped the town grow.
Braman officially became a town on January 9, 1899. In 1900, 249 people lived there. By 1907, when Oklahoma became a state, the population had grown to 300.
In 1920, Braman had 396 residents. The town's economy mostly depended on growing wheat. In the 1920s, oil was found nearby. This caused the population to quickly grow to almost 5,000 people! However, this boom didn't last long. By 1930, the population dropped to 507. This was the highest number of people ever recorded in Braman. Since then, Braman has remained a center for farming.
