Brandon is a member of the Ojibway Indigenous community from the Garden River First Nations in Northern Ontario. He last played for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League (NHL).
Brandon comes from a hockey family. His dad, Ted Nolan, was also an NHL player and coach. Ted even won the Jack Adams Award in 1997, which is given to the best coach in the NHL. Brandon's brother, Jordan Nolan, also played in the NHL.
Playing Career Highlights
Brandon Nolan played three years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Oshawa Generals. The OHL is a major junior hockey league in Canada. During his time there, he scored 81 goals and made 103 assists. He became the top scorer for his team during those three years.
In December 2007, Brandon was called up to play for the Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL. This happened because another player was injured. In his very first NHL game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Brandon got his first NHL point. He helped set up a goal for his teammate, Andrew Ladd.
After this, Brandon was sent back to the Albany River Rats, which was the Hurricanes' minor league team. However, he was called back to the Hurricanes several times that season. This was to help fill spots when other players on the team got injured.
Sadly, Brandon missed the entire 2008–09 season because of a concussion. A concussion is a serious head injury. After this, he was released from the Carolina Hurricanes. This meant his professional hockey career came to an end.
