Brandyn Thompson, born on October 30, 1989, is an American college football coach. He used to be a professional cornerback player. Since 2024, he has been the cornerbacks coach for California State University, Sacramento.
Thompson was chosen by the Washington Redskins in the seventh round of the 2011 NFL draft. He also played for teams in the Canadian Football League (CFL). These teams included the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks, and Edmonton Eskimos. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Boise State.

His First Season (2011)
Thompson made it onto the Redskins' main roster at the start of the 2011 season. He was sometimes moved between the main team and the practice squad. This is common for new players. By the end of his first year, Thompson had played in six games. He made two tackles during these games.
His Second Season (2012)
Thompson continued with the Redskins into the 2012 preseason. He was later cut from the team before the 2012 season officially began.

Playing in Canada: Ottawa Redblacks
On April 23, 2014, Thompson joined the Ottawa Redblacks in the CFL. He played two full seasons with this team. He played in almost all the regular season games each year.
In his second year with Ottawa, the team made it to the Grey Cup game. This is the championship game of the CFL. Although they played well, they lost to the Edmonton Eskimos. During his two years in Ottawa, Thompson made 97 tackles. He also had 7 interceptions and forced 1 fumble. After the 2015 season, he became a free agent.
Playing in Canada: Edmonton Eskimos
Thompson signed with the Edmonton Eskimos on August 8, 2016. He played for the Eskimos for three seasons, from 2016 to 2018.

After his playing career, Brandyn Thompson began coaching. He has coached at several colleges.

In 2022, Thompson started his coaching career. He was hired as the defensive backs coach for Sacramento City College.
Coaching at Cal Poly
In 2023, Thompson became the cornerbacks coach for Cal Poly. He helped coach a player named Donovan Saunders. Saunders earned special honors for his great play that season.
Coaching at Sacramento State
On May 6, 2024, Thompson was hired as the cornerbacks coach. This new role is at California State University, Sacramento.
Personal Life
Brandyn Thompson has a famous great uncle. His great uncle, John Thompson II, was a well-known basketball coach. He coached the Georgetown Hoyas basketball team for many years.
