Brazil is a city located in Clay County, Indiana, United States. It is the county seat of Clay County, which means it's where the main government offices for the county are found. In 2022, about 8,176 people lived in Brazil. The city is also part of the larger Terre Haute metropolitan area.

History of Brazil, Indiana
The land where Brazil now stands was once a farm. In the 1840s, the farm owners decided to name their property after the country of Brazil. The city of Brazil was officially founded in 1866.
Clay County was formed in 1825. Its first county seat was Bowling Green. However, Brazil grew and developed, so the county seat was moved to Brazil in 1876.
In 1956, the country of Brazil gave the city a special gift: the Chafariz dos Contos Fountain. This fountain is a copy of an old fountain from 1745 in Ouro Preto, Brazil. It was given as a symbol of friendship between the two places.
In 2010, Brazil gained attention for accepting money from Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC). This money was for displaying KFC logos on the city's fire hydrants.
Several important buildings in Brazil are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Brazil Downtown Historic District, the Clay County Courthouse, the Clay County Hospital, the Meridian-Forest Historic District, and the U.S. Post Office-Brazil.
