Brendan Murray's Journey in Music

Brendan was born in Tuam, a town in County Galway, Ireland. He went to St Patrick's Primary School and St Jarlath's College in Tuam.

Joining the Boy Band HomeTown (2014–2016)

In 2014, Brendan Murray joined an Irish boy band named HomeTown. A famous music manager, Louis Walsh, managed the band. HomeTown had great success in Ireland. They had two songs that reached number one: "Where I Belong" in 2014 and "Cry for Help" in 2015.

Their first album, also called HomeTown, came out in November 2015. It became very popular in Ireland, reaching number four on the music charts. In December 2016, the band announced they were taking a break.

Representing Ireland at Eurovision (2016–2017)

On 16 December 2016, it was announced that Brendan Murray would represent Ireland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. This is a huge international music competition.

His song for the contest was "Dying to Try", which was released on 10 March 2017. Brendan performed his song at Eurovision. He finished 13th out of 18 contestants in his semi-final. Only the top ten songs from each semi-final move on to the grand final, so he did not qualify.

Competing on The X Factor (2018)

In 2018, Brendan decided to try out for The X Factor UK. This was for Season 15 of the popular singing competition. During the "Six Chair Challenge" part of the show, he impressed One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson, who was a judge. Louis Tomlinson gave Brendan a "safe seat," which meant he went straight through to the live shows.

For his first live performance, Brendan sang "Break Free" by Ariana Grande. In the second week, he sang "Believe" by Cher. That week, he was one of the contestants with the fewest public votes. He had to sing again to stay in the competition. The judges' votes were tied, so the decision went back to the public votes. Brendan was saved and continued in the show.

He performed "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds of Summer in the third week. In Week 4, he sang "Everybody Hurts" by R.E.M. for "Movie Week." Brendan made it to the semi-final of The X Factor. He was eliminated in the semi-final after receiving the fewest public votes. He finished in 5th place.

Recent Music and Eurovision Attempt (2021–Present)

In January 2022, Brendan Murray was one of six singers chosen to try and represent Ireland again in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. This contest took place in Turin, Italy. His song was called "Real Love," and he wrote it with Darrell Coyle during the lockdown period. He finished in 6th place, which was last, with 12 points.
