Brent Douglas Webb (born 8 November 1980) is a former professional rugby league player. He was a New Zealand international. Brent played as a fullback, a key position in rugby league. He played for teams like the New Zealand Warriors, Leeds Rhinos, and Catalans Dragons.

Who is Brent Webb?

Brent Webb was born on 8 November 1980, in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. His family has Torres Strait Islander heritage. This means his ancestors came from the islands between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Brent went to school at Kirwan State High School in Townsville. He started playing junior rugby for the Cairns Kangaroos. In 2001, he was the top try-scorer in the Queensland Cup, a major rugby league competition. Soon after, the New Zealand Warriors team noticed his talent and signed him.

Playing for the New Zealand Warriors

Brent Webb made his first big professional game for the Warriors on 1 April 2002. He was 21 years old. He quickly became a fan favorite. Supporters even voted him their Player of the Year in both 2003 and 2004.

After living in New Zealand for three years, Brent could play for the New Zealand national team. He was part of the New Zealand squad that won the 2005 Rugby League Tri-Nations tournament. This was a big achievement for him and his team. The year 2006 was his last season with the Warriors. He was their top try-scorer that year, scoring 11 tries.

Joining the Leeds Rhinos

In 2007, Brent moved to England to play for the Leeds Rhinos in the Super League. He was already known as a great player from the 2006 Tri Nations tournament. Leeds fans loved his exciting style of play. They even had a special chant for him: 'Brent Webb is Superman!'

Brent played in many important games for the Rhinos. He helped them win the 2009 Super League Grand Final against St. Helens. He also played in the 2010 Challenge Cup Final and the 2011 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium, though Leeds lost both of those games.

In 2011, Brent signed a new contract to stay with the Rhinos until the end of 2012. Later that year, he played a key role in the 2011 Super League Grand Final. The Rhinos won again, beating St. Helens at Old Trafford.

Moving to Catalans Dragons and Retirement

On 4 September 2012, it was announced that Brent would join the Catalans Dragons team. This team is based in France and also plays in the Super League. He signed a two-year deal with them.

Brent started well with the Dragons. However, he had problems with a back injury that kept coming back. Because of this, he lost his spot in the team. After trying to recover, Brent Webb had to retire from professional rugby league in 2014.

Personal Life

Brent Webb has a son named Ruben Douglas Webb. He was born in April 2007. Brent and his partner Jenny named him after Ruben Wiki, a famous former captain of the New Zealand rugby league team.
