Breña Alta is a cool place on the eastern side of La Palma, one of the beautiful Canary Islands in Spain. The name "Breña Alta" means "Upper Breña" in Spanish. It's a municipality, which is like a local area with its own government.
The main office for the local government, called the ayuntamiento, is in the town of San Pedro. This town is about 350 meters (1,148 feet) above sea level. It's also only 9 kilometers (about 5.6 miles) south of the island's capital, Santa Cruz de la Palma. Breña Alta is located right on the main highway that goes around the island, just north of La Palma Airport. A long time ago, until the 1600s, this whole area was just called Breña. Then, it was split into two parts: Breña Alta and Breña Baja.
What You Can Find Here
Breña Alta has a fishing port where boats come and go. There's also an artificial beach called Bajamar, which is a great spot to relax. The area also has an industrial zone where different businesses operate.
One special thing Breña Alta is known for is growing tobacco. Farmers here have been growing tobacco for a long time. You can also find a very old and interesting tree near San Isidro. It's a dracaena tree that is over 100 years old! If you love animals, there's a fun zoo called Maroparque in Breña Alta.
