Brian Ferlin's Hockey Journey

Starting Young in Florida

Brian Ferlin began playing hockey when he was just five years old. He started in Jacksonville, Florida, where he grew up.

High School and Junior Hockey

For his last two years of high school, Brian moved to Indianapolis. There, he played junior hockey with a team called the Indiana Ice. This team was part of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The USHL is a top league for young players before they go to college or turn professional.

Brian played really well during the 2010–11 season. Because of his great performance, he was chosen to play in the 2011 USHL All-Star Game. This is a special game where the best players from the league get to compete against each other.

College Hockey at Cornell

After playing junior hockey, Brian went to Cornell University. He played college hockey for the Cornell Big Red men's ice hockey team. This team is part of the NCAA Men's Division I, which is the highest level of college sports in the U.S. They played in a conference called ECAC Hockey.

In 2012, Brian received a special award from Cornell. It was called the Greg Ratushny Award. This award is given to the most promising first-year player on the team.

Joining the Boston Bruins

After finishing his college hockey career, Brian signed a contract with the Boston Bruins. This happened on April 11, 2014. It was a two-year "entry-level" contract, which is common for new professional players.

Making it to the NHL

In the 2014–15 season, Brian started his professional career. He first played for the Providence Bruins, which is the Bruins' minor league team in the American Hockey League (AHL). The AHL is a league where players often develop their skills before playing in the NHL.

On February 20, 2015, Brian made his big debut in the NHL. He played his first game with the Boston Bruins against the St. Louis Blues. Just two days later, on February 22, 2015, he earned his first NHL point. This happened when he got an assist during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks. An assist is when a player helps set up a goal.

Later Career and Retirement

On July 1, 2017, Brian signed a new contract with the Edmonton Oilers. He played only 7 games for their AHL team, the Bakersfield Condors. After these games, he decided to stop playing professional hockey.
