High School and Junior Hockey
For his last two years of high school, Brian moved to Indianapolis. There, he played junior hockey with a team called the Indiana Ice. This team was part of the United States Hockey League (USHL). The USHL is a top league for young players before they go to college or turn professional.

College Hockey at Cornell
After playing junior hockey, Brian went to Cornell University. He played college hockey for the Cornell Big Red men's ice hockey team. This team is part of the NCAA Men's Division I, which is the highest level of college sports in the U.S. They played in a conference called ECAC Hockey.
In 2012, Brian received a special award from Cornell. It was called the Greg Ratushny Award. This award is given to the most promising first-year player on the team.
