ECAC Hockey facts for kids
ECAC Hockey is a group of colleges and universities in the Northeastern United States. These schools play NCAA Division I hockey against each other every season. It is the only NCAA Division I hockey conference where all member schools have both men's and women's hockey teams. The teams that win the league championship automatically get to play in the NCAA Division I men's and women's hockey tournaments.
What Makes ECAC Hockey Special?
ECAC Hockey has a special, unofficial connection with another group called the Ivy League. Six of the eight Ivy League schools have both men's and women's hockey teams. All six of these schools are also members of ECAC Hockey. Even though the Ivy League does not officially have a hockey league, it still names a champion. It figures out the winner based on how its members do in ECAC Hockey games.
