Brian Guebert, born on December 19, 1981, is a former professional football player. He used to play as a defensive end in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Today, he works as a football executive, helping to manage football programs.

Brian Guebert's Football Journey

Early Life and High School Football

Brian Guebert grew up in Saskatchewan, Canada. He went to high school at Lutheran Collegiate Bible Institute in Outlook. In 1998, his team won the six-man Saskatchewan High School Provincial Football Championship. This was a big win for them!

Brian was recognized for his skills early on. In 1999, he was named the Defensive MVP (Most Valuable Player) in the Can-Am Bowl. He was also chosen as the Outstanding Defensive Lineman in the 1999 Saskatchewan Senior Bowl. These awards showed he was a very talented player.

Junior Football Success

After high school, Brian played junior football for the Saskatoon Hilltops. He had amazing success with this team. They won the Canadian Junior Football League championship three years in a row: 2001, 2002, and 2003.

Brian's strong play continued to earn him awards. In both 2002 and 2003, he was named the Prairie Football Conference Outstanding Defensive Lineman. He was also recognized by his own team as the Hilltops' Outstanding Lineman in 2002. In 2003, he was chosen as their Outstanding Graduate.

University Football Career

After his time with the Hilltops, Brian moved on to play university football. He joined the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. He continued to excel on the field.

In 2004, he was selected as a Canada West All-Star. In 2006, he was again a Canada West All-Star and also a First Team All-Canadian. This means he was one of the best university players in the country. Brian played in the Vanier Cup, which is like the championship game for Canadian university football, in 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Besides playing, Brian was also a great student. He was part of the Huskie Athletics All Academic 1st Team in 2004-05. He was also on the CIS Academic All-Canadian Team that same year.

Professional Football and Beyond

Brian Guebert got a chance to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL). In 2003, he attended training camp with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He even played in one exhibition game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Later, on May 30, 2007, Brian signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a free agent. He was an important player on their special teams. He played for the Blue Bombers until he was released after the 2008 season.

After retiring from playing professional football, Brian continued to be involved in the sport. He became a co-interim coach for the University of Saskatchewan's football team. Later, he took on a leadership role as the Executive Director of the Saskatoon Minor Football league. In 2021, Brian worked to encourage more players to join flag football. This was part of an effort to potentially have flag football included in the 2028 Summer Olympics.
