Brickellia brachyphylla is a type of flowering plant found in North America. It is often called the plumed brickellbush or Hinckley's brickellbush. This plant belongs to the daisy family, which includes many well-known flowers like sunflowers and dandelions.

Where Plumed Brickellbush Grows

This plant naturally grows in the southwestern United States. You can find it in states like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and western Texas. It also grows in the Oklahoma Panhandle. Sadly, there are old records that say it used to grow in southwestern Kansas, but it seems to have disappeared from those areas now.

What Plumed Brickellbush Looks Like

The plumed brickellbush is a type of shrub, which means it's a woody plant smaller than a tree. It can grow up to 100 cm (about 40 inches) tall. It grows from a strong, woody base called a caudex, which helps it survive in dry places.

Its Unique Flowers

This plant produces many small groups of flowers, which are called flower heads. These flower heads have pale green disc florets. Disc florets are the tiny, tube-shaped flowers you see in the center of a daisy or sunflower. Unlike some other plants in the daisy family, Brickellia brachyphylla does not have ray florets. Ray florets are the petal-like parts that stick out from the center of flowers like daisies. So, its flower heads look a bit different from a typical daisy!
