According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.5 square miles (4.0 km2), of which 0.004 square miles (0.01 km2), or 0.27%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 328 people, 156 households, and 95 families residing in the town. The population density was 920.7 people per square mile (351.8/km²). There were 211 housing units at an average density of 592.3 per square mile (226.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.73% White, 1.52% African American, 0.30% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 1.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.91% of the population.
There were 156 households out of which 19.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 39.1% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.10 and the average family size was 2.62.
In the town, the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
