Briggsville is a small, unincorporated community in Yell County, Arkansas. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It is located on Arkansas Highway 28, about 12 miles (19 km) west-southwest of Plainview. Briggsville has its own post office with the ZIP code 72828.
In 2004, a writer named Alan Richard from Education Week mentioned that the most noticeable things in Briggsville were the highway, some of its houses, and the Fourche Valley School.
Briggsville is also the hometown of actor Jacob Lofland.
In 1976, Bill Clinton, who would later become president, spoke at a rally in Russellville, Arkansas. He talked about "the breathtaking beauty of our Arkansas spring" and listed several towns, including Briggsville. He said, "I know them all, and they are home to me because of you."
Learning in Briggsville
Students in the Briggsville area attend schools within the Two Rivers School District. This district currently operates two schools: Two Rivers Elementary School and Two Rivers High School.
Before this, students went to the Fourche Valley School. This school taught students from kindergarten all the way through 12th grade. It was part of the Fourche Valley School District.
On July 1, 2004, the Fourche Valley district joined with the Two Rivers district. The new, combined district kept the Fourche Valley School open for a few more years. However, in 2009, the school board decided to close it. Students from Briggsville then started going to Plainview-Rover Elementary School and Plainview-Rover High School.
Later, in 2010, Plainview-Rover High School closed because the new, combined Two Rivers High School opened. Then, in 2012, Plainview-Rover Elementary also joined with Two Rivers Elementary. This means all students now attend the Two Rivers schools.
