Brilliant Pool: A Connected Hot Spring
Brilliant Pool is not alone! It's part of a group called the Daisy Group. This means it's connected underground to two other famous geysers. These are the Daisy Geyser and the Splendid Geyser.
How Daisy Geyser Affects Brilliant Pool
Before Daisy Geyser or Splendid Geyser erupt, Brilliant Pool fills up with water. When Daisy Geyser erupts, the water level in Brilliant Pool drops a little. It usually goes down by a few inches. But don't worry, the pool refills as Daisy Geyser finishes its eruption.
How Splendid Geyser Affects Brilliant Pool
Splendid Geyser has a bigger impact on Brilliant Pool. When Splendid Geyser erupts, the water level in Brilliant Pool drops even more. Sometimes, Splendid Geyser erupts many times in a row. This can stop Brilliant Pool from refilling completely between eruptions.
When Brilliant Pool Erupts Itself
Most of the time, Brilliant Pool is affected by Daisy and Splendid geysers. But sometimes, Brilliant Pool can have its own eruptions! This happens if Splendid Geyser erupts many times in a row. It can also happen if both Daisy and Splendid geysers erupt at the same time.
When this happens, the water level in Brilliant Pool gets very low. Then, the pool itself might erupt. These eruptions are usually short, lasting only a few seconds. They happen a few minutes apart. The water fountain can shoot up to 15 feet high. But usually, it just makes the surface of the pool bubble and splash.
Brilliant Pool's Effect on Other Geysers
It's not just the geysers that affect the pool. Sometimes, Brilliant Pool can affect a geyser too! In the early 1950s, Brilliant Pool was overflowing with water. During this time, Daisy Geyser stopped erupting. It stayed quiet until Brilliant Pool went back to its normal water level.
