Broadwood Stadium is a large sports complex in Cumbernauld, Scotland. It's a place where different sports teams play and train. Today, it's the home stadium for Hamilton Academical F.C., a team in the Scottish League One. It also hosts Cumbernauld Colts F.C. from the Scottish Lowland Football League and Rangers W.F.C. from the Scottish Women's Premier League.
For many years, from 1994 to 2022, Broadwood was the home of Clyde F.C.. Another team, Broomhill, also played there for the 2022-23 season. Glasgow City F.C., a women's football team, used the stadium for their 2020–21 season. Broadwood is also a training base for the Scottish Rugby Academy and has a special track for the Cumbernauld Centurions BMX Club.
This stadium has hosted important football matches, like the final of the Scottish Challenge Cup four times. It has also been the venue for Scottish rugby's Finals Day and international Rugby league games.

Football Fun at Broadwood
Clyde F.C.'s Journey to Cumbernauld
Before Broadwood, Clyde F.C. played in Glasgow for a long time. They were at Barrowfield Park from 1877 to 1898, then at Shawfield Stadium until 1986. After that, they shared stadiums with other teams, including Partick Thistle F.C. and Hamilton Academical F.C..
In 1994, Clyde moved to Broadwood, a stadium built just for them. It was about 10 miles outside Glasgow. The club hoped to find new fans in Cumbernauld, a town that hadn't had a senior football team before.
Stadium Opening and Growth
Broadwood Stadium first opened its doors in February 1994. It was a big day, with 6,000 fans filling the stands. Sadly for Clyde fans, they lost their first game there 3–0 to Hamilton Academical.
When it first opened, the stadium had two main stands. A third stand was added in 1997, increasing the total seating to over 8,000. There were plans to make it even bigger, but these didn't happen. Instead, a community sports centre was built where the fourth stand would have been.
Other Teams and Big Games
Broadwood has been home to other football clubs too. Airdrieonians played there from 1994 to 1998. The stadium also hosted reserve team matches for Rangers and many games for the Scotland U-21 team.
One of the most exciting moments was in 2006. Broadwood saw a huge upset in the Scottish Cup when Clyde beat the reigning champions, Celtic F.C., 2–1! The stadium has also hosted four finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup.
New Teams Join Broadwood
In 2015, Cumbernauld Colts F.C. started playing their senior games at Broadwood. They joined the Scottish Lowland Football League.
Glasgow City F.C., a top women's team, played at Broadwood during the 2020–21 season. This was because their usual ground was not available.
Another Lowland League team, Broomhill, played at Broadwood for the 2022-23 season. They were known as Open Goal Broomhill during that time.
In 2024, Broadwood hosted the Strathclyde Demolition Cup final. Drumchapel United F.C. won the match, beating Neilston Juniors F.C. 3-0.
Hamilton Academical's New Home
Clyde F.C. left Broadwood at the end of the 2021–22 season after 28 years. They moved to share a stadium with Hamilton Academical F.C.. However, in 2025, Hamilton Academical themselves moved to Broadwood. This happened because of a disagreement about their previous stadium. So, in a way, Clyde and Hamilton Academical swapped stadiums!
Rugby Action
Broadwood isn't just for football; it's also a place for rugby. Cumbernauld RFC has used the stadium for special games.
In 2014, Broadwood hosted the Finals Day for rugby. Heriots beat Hawks 31–10 in the final match.
The stadium is also home to the Scottish Rugby Academy for the Glasgow and West region. This academy helps young male and female players develop their skills. They have special facilities with fitness and medical equipment to support future rugby stars.
Broadwood also hosted the first-ever Rugby League Commonwealth Championships. This was a special tournament with 8 teams from different Commonwealth countries. The team from Papua New Guinea won the competition.
Stadium Features and Facilities
Broadwood Stadium has three stands with seats for 7,936 people. The main pitch is made of astroturf, which is a type of artificial grass. This means games can be played in many weather conditions.
Besides the main pitch, there are four smaller 5-a-side pitches that the public can use. The stadium also has changing rooms and a gymnasium.
Since the 2012–13 season, the main pitch has been a 3rd generation synthetic pitch. This makes Broadwood a multi-purpose stadium, meaning it can be used for many different sports and activities.
There's also a special rugby facility on-site. It has modern fitness and medical equipment to help rugby players train and recover.
Broadwood Today
Today, Cumbernauld Colts F.C. are the main users of Broadwood Stadium. Their community program means that people of all ages use the stadium every day. With the Colts in the Scottish Lowland League, Broadwood hosts a second senior club since 2015.
