Bronckhorst is a municipality in Gelderland, a province in the Netherlands. It was formed on January 1, 2005. This happened when five smaller municipalities joined together. These were Hengelo, Hummelo en Keppel, Steenderen, Vorden, and Zelhem.

The municipality is named after a very old castle. This castle belonged to the Bronckhorst family. They used to rule this area a long time ago. The main town where the local government is located is Hengelo.

Keppel: A Town with Old Rights

The town of Keppel received special "city rights" in the year 1404. This meant it had certain freedoms and privileges, like being able to hold markets or build walls.
