History of Brookfield
How Brookfield Started
Brookfield began in the late 1800s. Before that, the area was mostly farmland. The village slowly grew over time. Today, it has about 200 houses. This makes it one of the smallest villages in Renfrewshire.
Famous Resident and Hospital
A well-known person from Brookfield was Donald J Malcolm (1925-2003). He started a big transport company called The Malcolm Group. His company's trucks often carried the Brookfield name.
The village was also home to Merchiston Hospital. This hospital was taken down in 2013. A large new housing area was built on the hospital's old site. This made the village much bigger.
How Brookfield is Governed
For local elections, Brookfield is part of Ward 9. This ward includes Houston, Crosslee, and Linwood. People in Brookfield vote for their representatives on the Renfrewshire Council. This council helps manage local services and decisions for the area.
