Early Life and Starting Gymnastics
Brooklyn Chloe Moors was born on February 23, 2001, in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She has an older sister, Victoria Moors, who was an Olympic gymnast in 2012. Victoria's success inspired Brooklyn to start gymnastics when she was just three years old.
Junior Gymnastics Career
Brooklyn began competing at an elite level in 2016. At her first big event, Elite Canada, she showed her skill on the balance beam, winning a silver medal. She also made her international debut that year.
At the 2016 International Gymnix, she won a gold medal on the floor exercise. This showed her talent for this event early on. She also earned a bronze medal in the "all-around" competition at the 2016 Canadian Championships. The all-around means competing on all four events: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
Senior Gymnastics Career
2017: First Senior Year and World Championships
In 2017, Brooklyn became old enough to compete as a senior gymnast. She quickly made her mark, winning a bronze medal in the all-around at Elite Canada. She also helped the Canadian team win a gold medal at the International Gymnix.
Later that year, Brooklyn competed at the Pan American Championships in Lima. She won a silver medal on vault, a bronze medal on the uneven bars, and a gold medal on the floor exercise. She then won another gold medal on floor at the Szombathely Challenge Cup.
Her biggest competition of 2017 was the World Championships in Montreal. She finished 15th in the all-around and 5th on the floor exercise. After the competition, she received the Longines Prize for Elegance. This award celebrates gymnasts who show outstanding grace and style. Brooklyn was the first Canadian to ever win it!
2018: Team Success at Worlds
In 2018, Brooklyn continued to shine. She won gold medals in the all-around and on floor exercise at Elite Canada. She also earned a silver medal on the balance beam.
Later in the year, she represented Canada at the World Championships in Doha. Brooklyn helped the Canadian team finish in fourth place. This was Canada's best team finish ever at the World Championships! She also competed in the all-around and floor exercise finals.
2019: Pan American Gold and Olympic Qualification
At the 2019 Canadian Championships, Brooklyn won a bronze medal in the all-around. She also took home a gold medal on the balance beam and a silver medal on the floor exercise.
She then competed at the Pan American Games. There, she helped the Canadian team win a silver medal. Brooklyn also won a gold medal on the floor exercise, showing her strength in this event once again.
In September, Brooklyn was part of the Canadian team at the World Championships in Germany. The team finished seventh, which was very important because it meant Canada qualified a full team for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo! Brooklyn also finished 14th in the all-around final and 7th on floor exercise.
2020-2021: Injuries and the Olympics
In 2020, Brooklyn continued to perform well, winning a silver medal in the all-around at Elite Canada. She also won gold on floor exercise. She planned to start college gymnastics at UCLA in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she took classes online. She also took time off training because of a back injury.
In 2021, after recovering from her injury, Brooklyn competed at the Canadian Championships. She won another gold medal on the floor exercise. On June 17, 2021, Brooklyn was officially named to Canada's Olympic team for the postponed 2020 Tokyo Games! At the Olympics, the Canadian team finished tenth. Brooklyn qualified for the all-around final and finished 16th, a great achievement.
College Gymnastics (NCAA)
Brooklyn Moors enrolled at UCLA, a university in the United States. She started taking classes online in 2020. She decided to delay competing for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team until the 2021–22 season. This allowed her to focus on training for the 2020 Olympic Games. Now, she competes for UCLA in college gymnastics.
