Brookville was started in 1870. This was when the Kansas Pacific Railway built its tracks to this spot. The town was officially "laid out," meaning its streets and lots were planned. The very first post office in Brookville opened in February 1870. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. In 1871, Brookville became an official city.
