Browns Pond is a special body of water in New Windsor, Orange County, New York. It's actually a reservoir, which is like a big, artificial lake built to store water. This water is then used by nearby towns and cities.

Browns Pond is one of two reservoirs that help supply water to the City of Newburgh. It's the smaller of the two.

What is Browns Pond?

Browns Pond is a hook-shaped body of water. It covers about 0.3 square miles, which is a bit less than a square kilometer. A winding road called Mount Airy Road passes by both ends of the pond.

Where Does the Water Go?

The water from Browns Pond flows out into smaller streams. These streams eventually join Silver Stream. Silver Stream is a tributary of Moodna Creek, meaning it's a smaller stream that flows into the larger creek.

The City of Newburgh also gets extra water from the Catskill Aqueduct. An aqueduct is like a giant pipe or channel that carries water from far away. The Catskill Aqueduct runs right between Browns Pond and the other reservoir.

No Recreation Here

Unlike some other lakes or reservoirs, Browns Pond does not have any places for fun activities. You won't find parks, swimming areas, or boating facilities here. Its main purpose is to store water for the city.
