The Brownstone Canyon Archaeological District is a special outdoor area in southern Nevada. It covers about 2,920 acres (about 4.5 square miles) and is part of the larger La Madre Mountain Wilderness Area. This wilderness area is huge, covering 47,180 acres! Brownstone Canyon is famous for its many ancient rock carvings, called petroglyphs. It is looked after by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management.
