Where is Brownstown Located?
Brownstown is easy to find because major roads pass nearby. U.S. Route 40 goes right through the southern part of the village. If you travel east on this road, you'll reach St. Elmo in about 6 miles (10 km). Going west for about 8 miles (13 km) will take you to Vandalia, which is the main town of Fayette County.
Interstate 70 also runs just south of Brownstown. The closest exit for this highway is about 3 miles (5 km) to the west, where it meets US 40. The village covers a total area of about 0.76 square miles (1.97 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
