Bruce Alan Fields (born October 6, 1960) is a former professional baseball player from America. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB). Bruce also worked as a hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians. He played for the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners for three seasons.
Bruce Fields' Baseball Journey
Bruce Fields started his professional baseball career after being chosen by the Detroit Tigers. This happened in the 7th round of the 1978 MLB draft. His first season was in 1978 with the Rookie league Bristol Tigers.
He played for many different teams during his career. His last season was in 1991. He played for two Triple-A teams that year: the Richmond Braves and the Syracuse Chiefs.
Managing and Coaching
After playing, Bruce Fields became a baseball manager. From 1997 to 2000, he managed the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps. He led them to have the best record in their league in 2000. He also won the Midwest League Manager of the Year Award twice. This was in 1997 and 2000.
Later, he managed the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens for two seasons. Then, he became a hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers from 2003 to 2005. Bruce Fields also worked as the hitting coach for the Cleveland Indians. He started this role on June 19, 2011.
About Bruce Fields' Family and Life
Bruce Fields has two sons. His son, Daniel Fields, also became a baseball player. Daniel played as an outfielder for the Detroit Tigers. He played his first and only major league game on June 4, 2015. This game was against the Oakland Athletics.
Bruce's older son, Aaron, also played baseball in the minor leagues. He was part of the Cleveland Indians' system.
Fields was also a talented basketball player. He played with famous basketball star Magic Johnson. They were teammates at Everett High School (Michigan) in Lansing, Michigan. Their team won the 1977 Class A Michigan High School Athletic Association championship.
