History of Bruce Township
Long, long ago, people lived in the Bruce Township area. There was even a large mound built by Native Americans. Early Scottish settlers used this mound as a helpful landmark. Bruce Township officially became a township in 1833.
Geography and Location
Bruce Township is in the northwest corner of Macomb County. It shares borders with Oakland County to the west. Lapeer County is on its northern border. The township covers about 37.2 square miles in total. Most of this area, 36.7 square miles, is land. About 0.4 square miles is water.
Twombly Mountain
The highest point in Macomb County is in Bruce Township. It is called Twombly Mountain. This mountain is inside the Ford Motor Company testing grounds. It rises to an altitude of 1,150 feet (351 meters).
