Bruceton is a small community located near Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, United States. It's not a city or a town with its own government. Instead, it's a part of bigger areas called South Park Township and Jefferson Hills. Bruceton is also part of the larger Greater Pittsburgh area.
This community is home to some important places. One is the Experimental Mine of the U.S. Bureau of Mines. This mine first opened in 1910. Bruceton also has the Pittsburgh Safety and Health Technology Center. In the past, a railway called the Pittsburgh and West Virginia Railway connected to the B&O Railroad right here in Bruceton. It is about 185 miles (or 298 km) northwest of Washington D.C.

A Hub for Scientific Research
In the early 1940s, Bruceton became a secret center for science. Almost 100 scientists came to work here. They were part of a special research group called the National Defense Research Committee.
The Manhattan Project Connection
These scientists were helping with a very important project. It was known as the Manhattan Project. This project focused on developing new technologies during World War II. Famous scientists, like Linus Pauling, even visited Bruceton for a month to contribute to this research.
