How Bruster's Began

The founder of Bruster's is a man named Bruce Reed. He was born in 1955. Bruce learned about the restaurant business when he was a kid. He helped his parents at their diner, Jerry's Curb Service. This diner was in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania, a small town near Pittsburgh. His dad taught him many secrets to running a successful food business.
In July 1989, Bruce Reed opened his own ice cream shop. It was right next door to his parents' diner. At first, it was part of another ice cream company called Handel's. But in October 1990, Bruce decided to make his shop unique. He changed the name to Bruster's.
Bruster's Grows with Franchises
After changing the name, Bruster's started to grow. They began offering "franchises." This means other people could open their own Bruster's shops. These new shops would follow Bruster's recipes and rules. This helped Bruster's spread across many states.
Today, you can find Bruster's in many places. These include states like Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Bruster's has also expanded beyond the United States. You can find their shops in Guyana and even in South Korea. The main office for Bruster's is still in Bridgewater, Pennsylvania.
Partnering with Other Brands
Some Bruster's locations also work with other food companies. For example, some shops are also a part of Nathan's Famous. This means that besides ice cream, you can also buy Nathan's hot dogs and other food items there. It gives customers more choices!
Delicious Bruster's Products
Bruster's is known for its huge variety of ice cream flavors. They have more than 150 different flavors! These flavors range from A to V. All their ice cream is made fresh in each store.
Besides ice cream, Bruster's also makes other yummy treats. They create handmade ice cream cakes, perfect for celebrations. You can also get homemade waffle cones, milkshakes, sundaes, and banana splits. Recently, Bruster's started offering non-dairy ice cream flavors. These are made with oat milk. This is great for people who cannot have regular dairy products, like those with lactose intolerance.
