Brutus is a small community in Emmet County, Michigan. It is known as an unincorporated community. It is also a census-designated place (CDP). This means it has official boundaries and population numbers for government records.

In 2020, about 202 people lived in Brutus. The community started in 1874. It began when a building called the Brutus House, which was an inn, was built there. Brutus is part of Maple River Township.

Geography of Brutus

Brutus is located in the eastern part of Emmet County. It is close to the middle of Maple River Township. A main road, US Highway 31, goes right through Brutus.

This highway can take you to other nearby towns. If you go north for about 4 miles (6.4 km), you will reach Pellston. If you travel south for about 3.5 miles (5.6 km), you will get to Alanson. The county seat, Petoskey, is about 14 miles (22.5 km) south on US 31.

Brutus was first officially listed as a census-designated place for the 2010 census. This means it now has clear boundaries and population data.

The total area of Brutus is about 2.8 square miles (7.3 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.08%, is water.
