Bryan Wong's Journey in Showbiz
Bryan started his career as a child actor way back in 1981. He appeared in several popular children's shows in Singapore. As a teenager, he also did modeling and commercials.
Becoming a TV Star
In 1994, Bryan joined a TV company in Singapore as a full-time artist. His first hosting job was for a show called Gen Y, which was about teenage life. But it was the show City Beat in the late 1990s that really made him famous. Even though his co-hosts won awards, Bryan faced some challenges. He later shared that he thought about quitting many times because he needed to support his family.
In 2000, Bryan moved to a new TV company called SPH MediaWorks. There, he became very popular for co-hosting a talent show called Snap with Kym Ng. People loved their teamwork! He was even nominated for a big award, Best Entertainment Presenter, in 2002. Later, in 2005, Bryan joined MediaCorp, which is a big media company in Singapore.
Acting Adventures
Bryan is also a recognized actor, especially in places like China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. He starred in famous shows like Eternity: A Chinese Ghost Story and the martial arts series Chinese Paladin. He also played the main character in the drama series Zero.
After returning to MediaCorp, Bryan became even more successful as a host. He co-hosted a popular home makeover show called Home Decor Survivor with Mark Lee. For this show, he won his first hosting award in 2006! He even won an audience poll for Favourite Variety Show Host in 2012, beating other big stars.
In 2019, Bryan also tried his hand at directing. He directed a short film called The Playbook.
Beyond the Screen
Bryan is not just a TV personality; he's also a businessman! He co-owns an interior design company called Home by Bryan Wong. This company helps people design their homes.
A Glimpse into His Life
Bryan grew up in a traditional village, called a kampong, in Kembangan, Singapore, during the 1970s and 80s. He lives with his sister, Varilyn, and his mother, Margaret, in an apartment in Bedok.
He went to Tanjong Katong Secondary Technical School. It was there that he first became interested in "do it yourself" projects and carpentry, which is like building things with wood. This interest probably helped him later with his interior design business!
