Buck Johnson started his basketball journey in high school. He played for and graduated from Hayes High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
College Career at Alabama
After high school, Buck went on to play college basketball for the University of Alabama. He was a key player for the Alabama Crimson Tide team from 1982 to 1986.

Playing in the NBA
Buck Johnson was a top pick in the 1986 NBA draft. The Houston Rockets chose him in the first round as the 20th overall pick. He played in the NBA for seven seasons, from 1986 to 1993.
He played for the Houston Rockets from 1986 to 1992. Then, he joined the Washington Bullets for the 1992–93 season. His best year in the NBA was during the 1989–90 season with the Rockets. That year, he played in all 82 games and averaged 14.8 points per game. In his entire NBA career, Buck played in 505 games and scored a total of 4,617 points.
