Buckland (called Nunatchiaq in the Iñupiaq language) is a city in Northwest Arctic Borough, Alaska, United States. In 2020, about 550 people lived there. The city gets its English name from the Buckland River. This river was named after William Buckland, a professor from Oxford University.

Geography
Buckland is located in Alaska at coordinates 65.984795 degrees North and 161.129717 degrees West.
The city covers a total area of about 2.6 square kilometers (1 square mile). Most of this area is land, which is about 2.2 square kilometers (0.85 square miles). The rest is water, about 0.39 square kilometers (0.15 square miles).

The city first appeared in the U.S. Census in 1920 with 52 people. Around 1941, some residents moved temporarily to Elephant Point. Buckland did not report a population for the 1950 census. However, residents soon returned, and the city has been counted in every census since 1960. Buckland officially became an incorporated city in 1966.
In 2000, there were 406 people living in Buckland. Most of the people living in the city were Native Americans, making up about 95.8% of the population. About 3.2% of the population was White.
The average household in Buckland had about 4.8 people. The average family size was about 5.2 people. Many households, about 66.7%, had children under 18 living with them.
Education
The Buckland School serves the community. It is part of the Northwest Arctic Borough School District. In 2017, the school had 168 students. About 96% of these students were Alaska Natives. The current school building opened in 2002.
