How the Nation is Governed
The Buffalo Point First Nation has a traditional way of governing their community. Their leaders are chosen through a system that has been passed down through families for many years. This is called a hereditary system.
The current leader is Chief John Thunder. He works with two Councillors to make decisions for the community. The number of councillors is decided by the Canadian government department that works with Indigenous peoples.
