Buin is a city and a commune in Chile. It is part of the Maipo Province in the Santiago Metropolitan Region. Buin is also considered part of Greater Santiago.
The city of Buin includes several smaller towns. These towns are Maipo, Viluco, Linderos, Valdivia de Paine, Alto Jahuel, Los Guindos, and El Recurso. Buin is located about 35 kilometers (22 miles) south of Santiago. It is found in the Maipo Valley, which is a famous wine region.

How Many People Live in Buin?
According to a census taken in 2002, Buin covers an area of 214.1 square kilometers (82.7 square miles). At that time, 63,419 people lived there. This included 31,440 men and 31,979 women.
Most of the people, about 53,506 (84.4%), lived in urban areas, which are like cities or towns. The rest, 9,913 people (15.6%), lived in rural areas, which are more like the countryside. The population of Buin grew quite a bit between 1992 and 2002. It increased by 20.1%, which means 10,627 more people moved there.
