The Bukit Batok MRT Station first opened its doors on March 10, 1990. It was originally part of what was called the "Branch Line." When it first opened, its special code was B1.

Over the years, the station's code changed a few times. In 1996, when the "Woodlands Extension" of the North South Line was completed, the station's code became N23. Later, in 2001, it was changed again to its current code, NS2. These codes help people identify each station on the train network.
