About the People of Bulnes
We learn about the people of Bulnes from a special count called a census. The last census was in 2002. It showed that Bulnes covers an area of about 425.4 square kilometers.
At that time, 20,595 people lived in Bulnes. There were almost equal numbers of men (10,275) and women (10,320). Most people, about 12,514 (60.8%), lived in the city areas. The rest, 8,081 people (39.2%), lived in the countryside.

How Bulnes is Governed
Bulnes is a "commune," which means it's a local area with its own government. It's like a third-level administrative division in Chile.
The local government is run by a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, who is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen by the people in an election every four years. From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde was Rodrigo De La Puente Acuña.
The municipal council also has several members who help run the commune:
- Ricardo Rodriguez Penrros (RN)
- Alejandro Valle Elgueta (ILC)
- Juan Arévalo Rojas (RN)
- Max Pacheco Palma (UDI)
- Oscar Troncoso Stuardo (PS)
- Mario Urra Riquelme (PDC)
Bulnes is also part of larger government groups in Chile. It has representatives in the Chamber of Deputies. These are like members of parliament who make laws for the country. Jorge Sabag (PDC) and Frank Sauerbaum (RN) represent Bulnes and other nearby communes in this group.
The commune is also represented in the Senate. The Senate is another important part of Chile's government. Alejandro Navarro Brain (MAS) and Hosain Sabag Castillo (PDC) represent Bulnes in the Senate.
