The Story of Bunker Hill: How It Started
Bunker Hill was officially planned and founded in 1851. Three people named James Myers, John Duckwall, and Alexander Galbraith helped create the town.
A post office opened in Bunker Hill in 1859. This made it easier for people to send and receive mail. Later, in 1868, the Pan Handle Railroad arrived. The railroad helped the town grow by connecting it to other places.
Where is Bunker Hill Located?
Bunker Hill is found in the southern part of Miami County. Indiana State Road 218 goes right through the middle of the town. This road leads west about 1 mile to U.S. Route 31. It also goes east about 7 miles to State Road 19 near Santa Fe.
Just west of Bunker Hill, across U.S. 31, is Grissom Air Reserve Base. Peru, which is the main town in Miami County, is about 8 miles north of Bunker Hill. The town covers an area of about 0.39 square miles (1.01 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Pipe Creek flows along the northern edge of the town. This creek eventually flows into the Wabash River.
