Buranda is a busy neighbourhood in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia. It's located in the southern part of Brisbane, near the suburbs of Greenslopes and Woolloongabba.

Buranda is a very important place for transport in southern Brisbane. Many big roads like Logan Road and Ipswich Road go through it. There's also the South East Busway with its own station called Buranda busway station. The Pacific Motorway also passes through this area. Plus, you can find the Buranda railway station here, which is on the Cleveland railway line.

You can also find the Centro Buranda Shopping Centre in Buranda. This shopping centre first opened in 1978 and was originally known as Buranda Plaza. Before it became a shopping mall, this spot was home to Buranda's tram depot, and then a bus depot. There's a special brick ventilation shaft in the shopping centre's car park. It was built in 1913 and is considered a heritage-listed site.

What's Coming to Buranda?

Buranda is planning for some big changes in the future! It's going to become one of Brisbane's new "transit-oriented development" (TOD) locations.

What is a Transit-Oriented Development?

A transit-oriented development, or TOD, is a special kind of community. It's designed to be built around a major public transport hub. This means it's easy for people to walk, bike, or use public transport instead of always driving.

Buranda Village Plans

The proposed TOD in Buranda is being called "Buranda Village." The plans include:

  • Two office buildings, one 6 storeys tall and another 23 storeys tall.
  • Five apartment buildings, ranging from seven storeys to 32 storeys high.
  • A 15-storey hotel.

These new buildings will help more people live and work close to public transport.
