Burmis is a small place in southern Alberta, Canada. It's not a town with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. This means it's part of a larger area called the Municipal District of Pincher Creek No. 9. You can find Burmis along Highway 3, about 107 kilometers (66 miles) southwest of Lethbridge.

The name "Burmis" has an interesting story! It's a mix of two names: Burns and Kemmis. These were two important people who lived in the area a long time ago. When you combine parts of their names, you get "Burmis."
A Look at History
Burmis once had its own post office. This post office opened in 1915. It was a place where people could send and receive letters and packages. However, as times changed and fewer people lived in the area, the post office eventually closed down in 1968.
The Famous Burmis Tree
One of the most well-known landmarks near Burmis is the Burmis Tree. This old limber pine tree is very famous. Even though it died in the 1970s, it still stands tall. People have even used special supports to keep it upright. It's a popular spot for photos and a symbol of the area's history.
