History of Burns

Burns started as a small stop with a water tank along the Union Pacific Railroad.

In 1907, the community was planned and named New Berlin. It was first called the Town of Luther. This name was chosen by German settlers to honor Martin Luther.

Burns became the main town in an area called the Golden Prairie District. This area was promoted by the Federal Land & Securities Co., which was started in 1905 by James R. Carpenter.
