Burrén and Burrena: Twin Hills of Aragon
Burrén is about 413 metres (1,355 ft) tall. Its twin, Burrena, is a bit shorter at 397 metres (1,302 ft) above sea level. These hills are made of Sedimentary rock. They stand out because they are isolated hills in the mostly flat area of northern Campo de Borja. This means you can see them from far away!
Ancient History Under the Hills
Beneath these hills, there are two very old archaeological sites. These sites date back to the Iron Age. They belong to a group of people known as the Urnfield culture.
These ancient places are so important that the Spanish Ministry of Culture has officially declared them Bien de Interés Cultural. This means they are protected as special heritage sites.
