History of Bushton
Bushton has an interesting history! It was first called Sorghum when it started in the early 1880s. But in 1887, its name changed to Bushton. This new name came from all the wild bushes growing around the town. Bushton officially became a city in 1907.

Years ago, in the 1980s, Bushton schools joined with Quivira Heights schools. The high school for Quivira Heights was called Quivira Heights High School, and their mascot was the Thunderbirds. This high school closed in 2012.
Before that, Bushton had its own high school. Its mascot was the Trojans. This high school also closed when the schools joined together.

Central Plains Oilers
The Central Plains Oilers football team won the Kansas State High School 8-Man Division I championship in 2014. This was a big win for the community!
Quivira Heights Thunderbirds
The Quivira Heights Thunderbirds also had a great year in 1983. They won two state championships! They won the Kansas State High School 8-Man Division II football championship. They also won the 1A boys basketball championship that same year.
