Byng is a small town located in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,393 people lived there. It's a quiet community in the heart of Oklahoma.

History of Byng
The town of Byng began in 1917. That's when a post office and a power plant were built there. These were named after a British General from World War I, Julian Byng. He was a famous commander during the war.
Byng officially became a town in 1922. It was formed by combining parts of two older communities. These were called Tyrola and New Bethel. Tyrola had been badly damaged by a big flood in 1914.
Later, the schools from Tyrola and New Bethel joined together. This happened in 1925. The combined school was named Byng in 1929. Finally, Byng became an officially recognized town in 1972.

Byng covers about 6.5 square miles (16.8 square kilometers) of land. It's located on U.S. Route 377.
The city of Ada is south of Byng. To the north, you'll find the town of Konawa and Lake Konawa.
