History of Byron
The area where Byron is located was first settled in 1877. It was originally called Harbine. This name was chosen because a railroad, the B&M Railroad, was planned to come through the area.
However, in 1889, people discovered there was already another post office in Nebraska named Harbine. To avoid confusion, the community changed its name to Byron. Today, the part of the community just across the state border in Kansas is still called Harbine, Kansas.
