Byron Stewart Dinkins was born on June 15, 1967. He is an American former professional basketball player. Byron played for two seasons in the NBA from 1989 to 1991. He also played college basketball for UNC Charlotte. After his time in the NBA, Dinkins had a successful professional career playing in Greece.

College Basketball Journey

Byron Dinkins was a point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense and handles the ball. He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Byron went to East Mecklenburg and played high school basketball there.

After high school, Byron was chosen to play college basketball for the UNC Charlotte. He played for the Charlotte 49ers for four seasons. During his college career, he averaged about 15.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game over 107 games.

Byron had his best scoring year during his junior season, averaging 21.4 points per game. He helped his school win the Sun Belt Conference Tournament title. Byron was also named the Sun Belt Player of the Year. He was chosen for the All-Sun Belt Conference First Team in both his junior and senior years.

Playing in the NBA

Byron Dinkins played in the NBA with the Houston Rockets during the 1989–90 season. He also played for the San Antonio Spurs and Indiana Pacers during the 1990–91 season. In his NBA career, Byron played in 45 games. He scored a total of 151 points, which means he averaged about 3.4 points per game.

Success in Greece

Even though Byron Dinkins did not play for an NBA team after 1991, he had a very successful professional basketball career playing in the Greek Basket League. He played for teams like Peristeri Athens, Panionios Athens, Panathinaikos Athens, and Iraklis Thessaloniki.

In the 1995–96 season, Byron led the Greek League in assists per game. In September 1996, while playing with Panathinaikos, he helped his team win the 1996 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. This was a big international championship.

Life After Basketball

After his basketball playing career ended, Byron Dinkins moved back to his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is now the head coach for the varsity boys' basketball team at Carmel Christian School. He also works as a gym teacher for the middle school there. Professional basketball player K. C. Rivers is Byron Dinkins' nephew.
