Playing in the NBA
Byron Houston started his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors. He played for them from 1992 to 1993. After that, he joined the Seattle SuperSonics in 1994. In 1995, he played for the Sacramento Kings.
One notable moment in his NBA career happened during the 1994 NBA playoffs. His team, the Seattle SuperSonics, played against the Phoenix Suns. Byron Houston was given the tough job of guarding the famous player Charles Barkley. His coach, Don Nelson, trusted Byron's strength. Coach Nelson decided not to have two players guard Barkley at once. Even though Barkley scored many points, Byron was seen as strong enough to handle the challenge.
Playing Outside the NBA
After his time in the NBA, Byron Houston continued to play basketball professionally. In 1997, he played in the PBA. He also played for the Quad City Thunder in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).
Byron had great success in the CBA. In 1998, he was named the CBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP). This award goes to the best player in the championship series. He also helped his team win the CBA championship that year. Later, he won the IBL championship twice, in 2000 and 2001.
